Antivirus software helps safeguard your computer against destructive viruses and Trojan horses. Installing programs such as Norton Antivirus will not only protect your computer against viruses, but spyware and malware as well. Here are some guidelines to help you install Symantec Antivirus on your computer.

Things You'll Need:

• Computer
• Internet Access
• Windows XP or higher
• Macintosh OS or higher
• Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
• Symantec Antivirus software

Step 1:
Determine if your operating system meets the minimum requirements before you install Symantec Antivirus software. Requirements include having Windows XP or higher or Macintosh OS, a 55 megabyte hard drive, 128 megabytes of RAM and Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher.

Step 2:
Purchase Symantec Norton Antivirus software or download a copy from Symantec's website.

Step 3:
Remove any other antivirus software you may have on your computer before you install Symantec Antivirus, including any previous versions of Symantec or Norton Antivirus. Do this on a Windows-based machine by going to "Start," "Control Panel," "Add or Remove Programs."

Step 4:
Close any open programs before you install Symantec Antivirus software.

Step 5:
Insert the Norton Antivirus CD into your CD drive or open the downloaded file and double click on "Install Norton Antivirus." Follow the prompts that appear in the panels to install Symantec Antivirus.

Step 6:
Click "I Accept the License Agreement" and type in your product key if prompted to do so.

Step 7:
Choose a location where you want to install your Symantec Antivirus. Clicking on "Next" sends it to a default destination.

Step 8:
Follow the prompts to install Symantec Antivirus on your computer. When the installation process has completed, restart your computer by hitting "Finish."

Step 9:
Wait for your computer to reboot then follow the steps to configure your Symantec Antivirus software.
